Comedy comes naturally to me:Gangster girl

She may be known for her intensity and emotive portrayals of conflicted characters in films like 'Gangster' and 'Fashion', but Kangana Ranaut says that she is essentially a 'fun-loving' person and the comedy genre comes quite naturally to her.

Kangana, most recently seen in the comedy 'Double Dhamaal' that released last Friday, seems to be consciously veering towards lighter films. The National Award-winning actress, who started her Bollywood journey with a spate of serious films, has been seen in breezy roles in 'Tanu Weds Manu', 'No Problem' and now 'Double Dhamaal'.

'I'm a very fun-loving person in real life and comedy comes naturally to me. In fact, I always found intense characters challenging. But as an outsider in the industry you don't have a choice in the roles you are offered. You take what you get,' Kangana told IANS in an interview.

'I don't regret the earlier films I did though - they were fantastic and brought me to this point. But I am enjoying comedy,' the 24-year-old added.

'Also now I think producers have faith in me, that I can do these roles well and audiences also like me in such roles...'Tanu Weds Manu' was such a hit; so I'm getting a lot of comedies,' she added.

After 'Double Dhamaal', Kangana will be seen in another laugh-riot 'Rascals', which stars Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn and is being helmed by David Dhawan.

Asked whether she was more comfortable with solo roles or being part of an ensemble cast, she said: 'I like doing films with strong scripts that I think audiences will like, a set up that will deliver the script's promise. It doesn't matter if it's a solo lead or a two-heroine film.'

'Although it depends on the director and how he positions and portrays you in a film, getting noticed in a big cast is possible. People really noticed my performance in 'Fashion' even though I was not the lead,' she added.

On the personal front, Kangana, who started her career in 2006 with 'Gangster', is quite happy with what she has achieved in five years, particularly considering that she is an outsider in the industry.

'It's very fulfilling of course to see people appreciate your work, but I still have a very long way to go. It was very tough. I still face many challenges, but I am happy with the place I am in today.'

What troubles her are the persistent rumours of link-ups. After her break-up with Adhyayan Suman, Kangana was linked with several actors like Dino Morea and Ajay Devgn and even Hollywood actor Gerard Butler.

'It's not a good feeling when you see rubbish being written. But I'm learning to take it in my stride. I guess it's an unfortunate side effect of the job,' said Kangana.

And when do you plan to settle down?

'I'm just 24...there's plenty of time for that,' a smiling Kangana said.

I own the spot of college girl in Bollywood

Genelia D'Souza, who is known for playing the bubbly, vivacious college girl in most of her films, says she seems to own that spot in Bollywood. The 24-year-old actress, who has portrayed the role of a young energetic girl in films like 'Tujhe Meri Kasam' and 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na', says she is offered such roles more than other actresses.'I seem to own the spot of the college girl in Bollywood.Down south I have been given strong issue based roles. But here I don't get one,' Genelia told PTI.The actress, who will be next seen opposite John Abraham in 'Force', says she plays a mature girl in the film, though it looks similar to the roles she has done before. 'Maya (her character) is extremely sweet, cute but she is also very mature. She is kind of a social activist. She knows what she is talking about. She has a clear thought process,' the actress said.

A scene where Genelia had to tie the knot with her co-star John in the film, faced controversy after the priest who conducted the on-screen ceremony, claimed that he had read out the actual wedding mantra. But Genelia, who has been fighting off the rumours of her marriage to good friend Ritesh Deshmukh, says she is tired of clarifying her martial status.'I am a girl, I have a family and I also want to get married. I am bothered by rumours about me. It not only affects me but also my family. We actors have a life, we have a heart and we are lonely and they should get that straight before doing cheap publicity stunts. It is sad,' she said.

The actress says she loved working with John as they share a similar background. 'John and I are friends, so it was very comfortable working with him. I have previously shot commercials with him, so that helped while shooting. John and me have similar backgrounds. We both have catholic background, we both grew up in Bandra, and we both faced similar struggles in our career,' she said. Genelia, who made her Bollywood debut opposite Ritesh Deshmukh in 'Tujhe Meri Kasam', has been paired opposite the actor after a gap of seven years in 'Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya'. 'One think I noticed while shooting with Ritesh was that we have grown as actors and also as persons. We are different people now. We are much better professionals than what we were seven years back,' Genelia said.

The actress has also made her presence felt down south with blockbuster films like -- 'Katha', 'Bommarillu', 'Santosh Subramaniam'. 'Force' is also a remake of Tamil hit film 'Kaakha Kaakha' and she herself is all set to reprise her role in
'Bommarillu' in its Hindi remake titled 'It's My Life', opposite Harman Baweja. 'I am absolutely fine with remakes. But doing a remake is more difficult than it seems. I thought 'It's My Life' would be a cakewalk as I have already acted in its Tamil and Telegu version but it was anything but easy. Acting in your own remake is harder than doing a new role,' she said.
